Journaling shouldn’t be tedious or dreary. It should be fun, and one way of injecting some fun itno your journaling is by using your creativity.

In this post, I’ll explore 5 ways that you can get creative with your journal.

1. Use colour

As you’ve probably read already, I love glitter gel pens, so I tend to use them a lot. I also have some erasable pens so that I can edit my thoughts as I go, but really, glitter pens are my favourite way of journaling. The pages seem to pop.

If you do something like bullet journaling, then you can use colour in your shorthand so that one colour relates to work, another to events, and yet others to more categories that you add.

Using colour is a very simple way to have fun woth your journal.

2. Add stickers and ribbon (or washi tape)

If you want to get artistic, but are like me and don’t have the skills, then you can borrow them. Stickers come is all sorts of coliurs and designs and can be used to not just add colour to your journal but also to express yourself in a different way.

3. Doodle and draw

Some people are really artistic but that gene passed me by. I do like to doodle though, and whilst mine are very simple (think kindergarten), sometimes a picture can paint a thousand words! So if you’re feeling stuck about writing something, consider drawing it instead. You don’t have to be perfect, but sometimes when something or someone has hurt you, drawing it out helps you process what happened.

4. Get poetic

Again, this gene skipped me, but a friend of mine got my helping too and can write the most beautiful poetry. Maybe use your journal to write your day out as a Limerick or haiku. A Lierick is 5 lines with the puchline at the end, whilst a haiku is much different. It’s mad eup of 3 sentences, the first 5 syllable, the second 7 and the third 5. It’s much more challenging, but can be a fun way of summarising your day!

5. Use images

Instead of writing, use your blank page and create a collage of images that summarise your day or how you’re feeling. This one is great if you’ve been out and about. You can glue in ticket stubs, images or something else completely. You can use it as a vision or mood board. Again, it’s about being expressive and having fun.

So that’s 5 very simple ways to get creative with your journal.

I’d love to see or hear how you got on, so use the comments here, or message me via my Facebook page or via Twitter.

Have fun!!
