Today was a fun day.
Meet Margaret McEntee, of the Chic Beauty Salon in Longford.
She is an expert on colour analysis – identifying what colours suit you. After decluttering my wardrobe, I felt it would be useful to make sure that what I kept, and what I bought in future, really suited me.
After completing an assessment, Margaret sat me down in front of a mirror and started draping different colour swatches around me, so see which tones within a specific colour suited me best. The idea was to identify those colours that brighten up my face and made me look younger.
Some colours obviously didn’t suit me, some made me look old, and others were not so clear cut. After going through a rainbow of colours, it became quite clear that my natural preference was for the “spring” range of colours. The thing is, the spring range of colours is actually, well, colourful. And black and white are banned. Completely.
As someone who has been over-weight for a long time, black has been the staple of my wardrobe. I bought into “black is a slimming colour” routine. But for me, it’s a draining colour, and does absolutely nothing for me. The same happened when we compared white and cream. Cream was a much more flattering colour on me. Here are some of the colours I should be wearing!
So after having my make-up done, and realising even my make-up had the wrong colours for me, I came away with a swatch of colours to take away with me. I can now use these when I go shopping. I’m meeting Margaret again tomorrow and she’s going to declutter my decluttered make up bag!
It’s going to take some time, but after decluttering my wardrobe, I’m going to revisit it on a colour basis. Over the next few months, I’m going to phase out the black trousers, and introduce some colour. Watch this space!
If you’re going to declutter your wardrobe, then take into account the colours of the clothes that you’re keeping. If you’re not sure, then consider getting expert advice. If you live around Longford, in Ireland, then I would definitely recommend spending some time with Margaret. 😉
Take care for now

Ooh! I had my colours done after ditching hair dye over a year ago. Best thing ever! I’ve now embraced a whole raft of new colours, gave away tons of clothes that no longer worked for me, changed make up colours and feel like a new woman!
There’s also a lot to be said for getting the style right. We change with hair cut, colour, age and our skin tone changes too, so colours do definitely need to be refreshed as time moves on.
Have fun!!!
