As part of my kitchen declutter, today I tackled the fridge. Decluttering the fridge is something that really should be done on a regular basis, so if you can, keep your fridge clean as part of a weekly cleaning routine.
How to declutter your fridge
- Clear some space, and take everything out of the fridge
- Take out all the shelves and any other parts that are designed to be removed for example the veg and egg boxes. Wash and dry each item.
- Give your fridge a complete clean. Using warm soapy water, (I add some Dettol to it, to kill and bugs that may be lurking there) start at the ceiling of the fridge and work you way down. Include all the walls, the fridge door and any other surface. When finished discard this water.
- Using fresh soapy water, wipe down the outer door. If you have fridge magnets, remove them. Remember, this is the first spot that you touch before going into the fridge, so give it a thorough clean.
- Now return the cleaned shelf units and other parts. Your clean fridge is ready for
- Before returning any item of food to the fridge:
- Make sure that you’re returning food to their optimal spot. Vegetables go on the veg boxes. Eggs, dairy and raw meat should be on the lower shelf, whereas cooked food, leftovers and ready meals should be on upper shelves. The door isn’t a cool spot, so only store condiments, juices and water here.
- Check each item for it’s use by date. Bin any food out of date or that has spoiled. If you are returning bottles, give them a wipe before you do so.
