Four things to consider when selling

Four things to consider when selling

When I decluttered my wardrobe, what I didn’t keep went to family or the charity shop. However, as I decluttered other spaces, I’ve come across things that can be sold, so today I’m looking at the four things to consider when selling your stuff.

To get the best price for your things, you need to do some research, and use the 4 P’s of marketing:

  • Product. What is it that you’re selling? Be very clear on the the labeling, condition and age of the item, and ensure that you include a photo of the actual item that you’re selling. For example, I have several pairs of black trousers to sell. I’ll need a good image for each pair. Those that were purchased at a high street store will sell at a lower price than those with a known designer label. Therefore, it’s really important to include the name of the label in any description of the item that you’re selling.
  • Place. Where are you going to sell the item? Do your research and find out what your options are. This will depend on the item and where you live, for example, I have a child’s easel that I have to sell. It’s bulky and heavy, so selling it on ebay with postage costs would be prohibitive, whereas selling it via a local Facebook group where someone can come and pick it up would work better.
  • Price. How much are you going to sell the item for? Again, do some research. Checkout online auction and classified websites to see what the competition are selling the same item for.
  • Promotion. How are you going to sell the item and to whom? Some online auction and classified sites offer additional options such as featured product, so that it appears at the top of any search results, making it more likely to sell. You’ll also need to consider the cost of selling the item. Some websites charge for the privilege, whereas if you post it

I’ve built up a pile of things to sell so each one will need to be photographed and then upload them to either a local Facebook group or a national classified ads website.

I hope you found this useful

Take care for now
