Stuck
I won’t lie, the last couple of weeks have been hard.
Dad was in hospital, so I spent a couple of weeks driving up and down to Sligo each day to visit him. It’s tiring however, he doesn’t know many people over here and I know how lonely it can be in hospital, so I make the effort. It just meant that I had much less time, and energy, to do the things that I had planned to do.
One of the things I wanted to work on was decluttering my home again, but because it’s Dad’s stuff, I couldn’t go through it without it. So I was stuck.
Stuck with a house so full of stuff, it was hard to find a clear surface.
Stuck with boxes that I couldn’t work through.
Stuck without the power to change things.
After working on decluttering my own stuff for so long, I now had more than before. Two steps forward, three steps back.
I also noticed that the clutter was having an impact on me mentally. Not only was I stuck with stuff. I was stuck mentality. Trying to get things done was like trying to wade through treacle. I was surrounded by so much stuff physically, that it was like a wall in my mind that I couldn’t get past to see what else I needed to do.
Becoming unstuck
Have you ever felt like that?
So focused on what you can’t do, to see what you can?
So, I had to draw on my Life Coaching skills.
I remembered that I had done this before.
I remembered that it took time to declutter the first time round.
I remembered that I had a support network.
I remembered that I had a choice.
I remembered that I had the knowledge, skills and experience to become unstuck.
So I choose to focus on completing one goal.
Just one thing.
And when that goal was completed, I banked that success, and then chose another goal. This time, it was a little bigger.
And then I completed that goal, and I started feeling better.
When you get so stressed out and overwhelmed by what’s going on in your life, it’s easy to become stuck. It’s less easy to become unstuck. However, it is possible.
You just have to be kind to yourself.
Remind yourself of how far you’ve come to get to where you are now.
Remind yourself that you are creative, resourceful and whole.
You can do this.
One step at a time.
