This week, I read Lightning Lingers from one of my favourite authors, Barbara Freethy. I’d pre-purchased it as soon as it became available, and so was delighted when it appeared as a download on my Kindle app.
For anyone who doesn’t know Barbara Freethy, she’s an American author who’s made a mint on Amazon, self-publishing her amazing romance books. Yep. I confess, I love reading romance books. They’re my secret pleasure. I’ve read pretty much everything Barbara Freethy has written for the Kindle, and pre-purchase anything that comes up. They are a total escape for me, and once I sit down to read one, I normally just keep going until the end. There have been one or two books where I stayed up until the middle of the night to finish them!
This weeks book was the second in a trilogy of books around a theme of lightning. The trilogy centres around a family, and in this case, the romance is between two people that had broken up and meet up for the first time in 10 years. Jake is the older brother in the family and he meets up with Katherine, a just-qualified doctor. She asks for his help after receiving a phone call from her brother. They then set off on an adventure in Mexico to rescue him. In the background, a story that started in book one, continues.
I love the way the book mixes adventure and romance. I won’t say too much, as I don’t want to give the story away, but as they travel through Mexico, they learn much about themselves and their relationship. She learns to let go, and learn to trust again, whilst he sees the past from a different angle, and they both realise that now that they have grown up, they have a second chance at being with the person who is their one true love. Sorry, but it is a romance book, and there has to be a happy ending!
If you’re looking to relax with a good book, and you’re a fan of romance books, then I would suggest reading them in order. The first book is called Beautiful Storm, and the third book, Summer Rain will be published later this year.
Take care for now
