Today is Ash Wednesday and the first day of Lent in the Christian calendar. there are now 40 days to Easter, and I’ve seen some 40 day lent challenges floating around Facebook (I wish I’d thought of that!), so instead, I’ve compiled a list of 40 things that you can declutter for Lent.
- clothes that don’t fit
- clothes that you haven’t worn for over 2 years
- clothes that you don’t like for whatever reason
- clothes that have stains on them
- clothes that need repairing
- socks with holes
- tights/stockings with ladders
- shoes that don’t fit or aren’t comfortable
- shoes that are worn out
- handbags that you haven’t used in a while
- accessories that you don’t like or use
- make-up that’s stale or that you don’t use
- nail polish you don’t use or that’s past it’s best
- hair products you’ve grown out of
- any personal grooming items you don’t use
- any personal grooming products out of date
- any medication that is out of date
- pillows that flop when you balance them on your arm
- any bedding that you don’t use
- any towels that don’t get used
- any books that you don’t love
- any reference books with out of date information
- magazines that you’ve read
- any books on your Kindle that you’re not going to read
- kitchen gadgets that you don’t use
- cups, plates etc that are chipped
- food in the fridge that is out of it’s use by date
- herbs and spices that you just don’t use or that are out of date
- special teas that you don’t drink or keep for someone who likes them
- manuals for things that you don’t own any more
- notes from courses or qualifications that you’ve taken and haven’t looked at in a year
- any email lists that you’ve subscribed to but don’t read. Unsubscribe from them.
- any emails older than 3 months that you haven’t read. Check them and delete. If they are from a mailing list, unsubscribe.
- pens that don’t work
- games/jigsaws with pieces missing
- chargers for phones you no longer own
- old mobile phones
- old reading glasses
- old calendars or diaries
- old greeting cards or postcards that you don’t want
