One of the key principles in Marie Kondo’s book is to keep the things you love. With that in mind, I’d decluttered my wardrobe, or so I thought.
I’m going to be going on a break at the end of next week, so I was trying on clothes and packing for the journey. I tried on one of the dresses that I love and intended to bring with me, when something funny happened. It didn’t fit.
I should say that I’ve been trying to lose weight and have been able to lose 20lbs, but wasn’t expecting this. I’d thought about having some of my clothes taken in, but a close relative said that it was unnecessary, as they’d only fit better than they did before, (according to her they’d been too tight). Well pooh to that. One of my favourite dresses didn’t fit, because it was too loose! Yay.
So, just when I thought I’d completed one area of of my bedroom, I found that I had to go back and check what fit and what didn’t again. If it was something I loved, and looked well, but didn’t fit, then it will have to go to get taken in. If it doesn’t look so well now that I’ve lost some weight, then it’s time to let it go to a home where it’ll be appreciated. This declutter was small in comparison, but yet another bag of clothes is now ready to go to a charity shop on Monday!
It seems to me that decluttering your wardrobe is something that should be done regularly. One suggestion I’ve come across is that you have all your clothes facing one way at the beginning of the year, and then as you use them, return them to your wardrobe facing the opposite way. That way, you’ll be able to see what you wore and what you didn’t. I may well give that a try and then review my wardrobe again at Easter.
How did you get on today?
If you haven’t started decluttering but would like to, then why not take my challenge. There’s a great workbook to download, that will coach you through the process, allowing you to set your own goals and monitor your successes.
Take care for now
